What is DLNA?

The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a non-profit collaborative trade organization established by Sony in June 2003, with more than 250 member companies in the mobile, consumer electronics, PC, and service provider industries.

The goal of DLNA is to enable end-to-end interoperability among the digital devices storing, playing and sharing digital content on your digital network. So far that includes DLNA Certified products in twelve different DLNA device classes in three categories.

DLNA categories include:

  • Home Network Devices
  • Mobile Handheld Devices
  • Home Infrastructure Devices

More than 440 million DLNA CERTIFIED devices – from digital cameras to game consoles to TVs – were installed in users’ homes by the end of 2010 (ABI Research, “Home Networking Market Data”, January 2011).
